Monkees Announce First Tour in 15 Years

By Glamorosi

For the first time since 1997, The Monkees are reuniting for a 12-date concert tour that kicks off at Escondido’s California Center for the Arts on November 8, 2012, and closes at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on December 2, 2012. The performances will feature the remaining members of the group – Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Micky Dolenz – who plan to salute band mate Davy Jones who passed away unexpectedly this past February. Although Michael Nesmith has reunited with the group over the years, these dates are the first U.S. Monkees tour with him since 1969. Nesmith's last U.S. appearance with the band was a private show in support of 1997’s Justus album.

The shows, billed as An Evening with the Monkees, will be presented in a multimedia format with music, rare films, and photographs. The set list will feature the band’s classic hits including “I’m A Believer” and “Last Train To Clarksville”, cuts from their cult film classic Head and their Emmy-winning TV show, and lesser-known tracks from their albums that haven’t been performed since the 1960s. The highlight of the shows will be the Monkees performing as just a trio; additional players will appear onstage with The Monkees to open and close the show.

The Monkees concerts are expected to draw devotees who have followed the band since the 60s – in 1967 the Monkees outsold the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and had two #1 albums (Headquarters and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd)  – as well as new fans who discovered the band from re-runs of their TV show, classic rock radio and social media.

In addition to this tour, Micky Dolenz - the lead singer and drummer for The Monkees - is gearing up for the worldwide release his new album, Remember, on September 25, 2012 (Waterfront Ent. Group/RoboRecords and Universal Music Distribution).
