When executive chef and owner David Katz closed Mémé last summer, the folks at the neighboring Pub & Kitchen took over the space at 2201 Spruce Street in Philadelphia and vowed to re-open it as the Fitler Dining Room. Word has it that the 32-seat restaurant will open in February with Chef Robert Marzinsky at its helm, but earlier this week we were able to get a first sneak-peek inside.

The workers weren't crazy about letting me shoot the gleaming white tile walls, the banquette lines, the dark mahogany wall unit (against the 22nd Street wall), or the restaurant’s famous open-kitchen display. But, I did manage to get on exclusive shot looking into the spot as workers shuffled in and out. So far, Fitler Dining Room looks like a glittering Mémé with bold, bright sass.

Marzinsky, the one-time chef du cuisine at Avalon, NJ's Diving Horse and East Passyunk's Stateside, is looking to do American bistro fare with a twist. Stay tuned for more info as we get closer to the opening date.
