Icy pop goddess Lana Del Rey might not have toured behind her 2012 Born To Die debut, but she’s making up for lost time now with the announcement of a full-blown tour starting in April (all shows go on sale March 14), a date at Coachella, a new single for Angelina Jolie’s Disney flick, Maleficent, and a new album, ULTRAVIOLENCE.
We truly fell in love with Lana Del Rey when she re-recorded the Bobby Vinton classic “Blue Velvet” as a slow, diabolical synth-pop number that rivaled even Isabella Rossellini’s version of the song (for the film of the same name) in the creepiness stakes. Since then, Del Rey has released an EP (Paradise), a Grammy-winning re-mix version of her hit “Summertime Sadness,” and a 30-minute short film Tropico. Still, it’s hard to beat all that she has planned for 2014. Along with the hotly anticipated tour and Coachella date, Del Rey is getting ready to drop a remake of the Disney classic "Once Upon a Dream” as a single for the soundtrack of the film Maleficent (in theaters May 30). A trailer for Maleficent aired during this year's Grammy Awards and Academy Awards ceremonies (see below).
Currently, Del Rey is finishing her sophomore full-length album, ULTRAVIOLENCE, which promises to be a rougher-sounding record than her glacial Born to Die debut, now that Dan Auerbach from the raw, bluesy duo The Black Keys is producing.
