Over the past year, Brazil's government has been participating in trade missions with American cities in order to raise its profile as a business and tourist destination. That’s perfect timing considering that Brazil will host soccer’s 2014 FIFA World Cup this June and July, and the Summer Olympics in 2016. To celebrate these trade missions, International House Philadelphia (IHP) hosts its 53rd Annual Global Gala, Colors of Brazil, on Saturday, May 17, with other Brazilian-themed events to follow. In conjunction with the Gala, an arts exhibition, “From Rio to Brotherly Love” is open at IHP now through June 30.

International House Philadelphia was founded in 1910, offers housing to scholars, teachers, students and interns from over 65 countries, and has long been renowned for being one of the East Coast’s most formidable presenters of international arts, film, music and symposiums. On an annual basis, IHP focuses on celebrating a specific country for its annual Global Gala. This year’s black tie “Colors of Brazil” soiree evokes the mood of Carnaval and is highlighted by Brazilian-themed cuisine from Modern Palate, live music from DendĂȘ & Band and DJ Ben Arsenal, decorations from Papertini Floral & Event Design, and a silent auction.

To conclude their season of Brazil-themed festivities, IHP will host an outdoor Brazilian Barbeque with live music on June 14th.

International House is located at 3701 Chestnut St., Phila. PA, 19104. For Global Gala  Colors of Brazil tickets or more info visit ihousephilly.org/globalgala or call 215.387.5125.
