What could be a better food pick for the Memorial Day weekend than news about hamburgers? On May 25th – Memorial Day 2015 – the James Beard Foundation (JBF) launches the Better Burger Project, a contest and challenge held in restaurants across America, to make the best hamburger by blending ground meat with cultivated mushrooms for sustainable, healthier meals. The Better Burger Project runs through July 31, 2015; you can vote for your favorites through Instagram.

The Better Burger Project is a national event with competitors including The Cookhouse in San Antonio, Texas; Graffiti Bar in New York City; Bachi Burger in Las Vegas, Nevada; and The Lab in Los Angeles, CA. In our hometown of Philadelphia, PA, we're looking forward to the challenge at PYT in the Piazza at Northern Liberties, and Iron Chef Jose Garces' Village Whiskey burger joint on S. 20th Street in the Rittenhouse Square area. For rules and a list of all participating restaurants visit BetterBurgerProject.org.
