1939 Chevy Sedan at the 2012 East Passyunk Avenue Car Show |
By Glamorosi, July 2012
The East Passyunk Avenue Car Show and Street Festival took place yesterday, July 29, in South Philadelphia. Now in its 7th year, the show was hosted by the
Northeast Muscle Car Club and presented by the
East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District. From Dickenson all the way to Broad, East Passyunk Avenue was lined with antique, custom and show cars, craft vendors, and people soaking up the sun, sounds, and a selection of food and drinks.

Glamorosi and 1939 Chevy |
One of my favorite cars was the 1939 Chevy Sedan (shown above and at right) owned by Randy Ruffin, who has had the car for eight years. The lavender and pearlized white painted beauty has come a long way since Mr. Ruffin found it as a rusty frame sitting in a Camden, NJ backyard. When I asked how many hours of work it took to finish the restoration, Mr. Ruffin laughed and said, "It's not done, it's never-ending".

A cool convertible Corvette Stingray |
This sexy 1972 Chevy Corvette Stingray is owned by Harry Brooks. According to the
National Corvette Owners website, Chevy sold these convertibles for $5,296 in 1972. If I could have had any car in the show, I would have driven away in this one.

Billy Young's 1931 Ford Model A |

This Ford Model A is 81 years old |
This 1931 Ford Model A is owned by Billy Young. I watch a lot of movies and recognized this classic car, so I checked the
Internet Movie Cars Database (IMCDB) to see what films and tv shows featured the Ford Model A. One that stood out was an episode of the
Twilight Zone called
"The Whole Truth" (1961), starring Jack Carson: "a used car salesman buys a car that dooms him to tell only the truth".

Tony Luke Jr., Jennifer Schloder and her son |
This is actor and food entrepreneur
Tony Luke Jr. with gorgeous Jennifer Schloder and her son (in very cool Batman makeup). Although I chow down on his
sublime sandwiches on a regular basis, I haven't seen Tony since the premiere of his movie
The Nail - The Story of Joey Nardone. Earlier this summer
Colin Farrell was in Philly filming
Dead Man Down - last week in his
Backstage with Bryan interview at
The Tonight Show, he said that Tony Luke's has the best cheeseteak. We think they have the best roast pork sandwiches too.

Maria di Marco aka Mamma Maria |
This is Maria di Marco, known as Mamma Maria, putting together some gnocchi marinara to-go for me. In her Passyunk Avenue eatery,
Mamma Maria Ristorante Italiano, there are no menus; di Marco goes to the Italian Market on a daily basis and selects the freshest ingredients, and then decides what she'll be cooking and serving that day.

Gigi Andrew of Ms. Goody Cupcake cuts anniversary cake |
South Philly's
Ms. Goody Cupcake made it's debut at last year's Passyunk Avenue Car Show - this year owner Gigi Andrew commemorated their one-year anniversary with a custom car cake. The bakery serves twelve varieties of cupcakes daily, plus cake truffles, custom cakes, and more. The car cake was moist and buttery, and the truffle I sampled achieved the perfect balance between cake and candy. I'll be heading back to Ms. Goody Cupcake soon to taste the newest addition to their menu, the cupcake milkshake.
