X Factor contestant Jason Brock: "I did it for the Gays and Japan" |
On The X Factor season 2, episode 15, one contestant from the Top 13 will be eliminated, the rest will be one step closer to the 5 million dollar prize. On this installment of the show we also get to see two performances from the wildly successful boy band One Direction – they got their start on The X Factor UK when show creator and judge Simon Cowell merged five solo artists into a band.
The show opens with One Direction. They sing “Live While We’re Young” with lots of high-fiving with the audience and huge red and white balloons onstage. They chat with hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian, there’s some video showing fellow Pepsi pitchman, football player Drew Brees, we watch their commercial, and then we move on.
Next we see a quick video recap of last night’s performances mixed with glimpses of what was going on backstage. It’s nice to see the contestants interacting with the judges, and wow – Emblem3’s Drew really looks a lot like his Mom!
Then the judges and performers are introduced: Britney Spears and her Teens, Demi Lovato and the Young Adults, L.A. Reid and The Over 25s, and Simon Cowell and his Groups.
Six of the contestants who are safe are announced: Arin Ray, Paige Thomas, Diamond White, Vino Alan, Jennel Garcia and Emblem3.
One Direction takes the stage for a second performance, this time they sing the ballad “Little Things”. Nice harmonies, guys!
More contestants are named as safe: Carly Rose Sonenclar, Tate Stevens, Beatrice Miller, Lyric 145, and Fifth Harmony. With that announcement, the bottom two who will sing for survival are revealed: CeCe Frey from the Young Adults, and Jason Brock from the Over 25s. Jason Brock? We're sad.

Then it’s time for the judges to tell us who they want to send home. Mario Lopez says if this judges vote is tied, they will go to the public vote, and the contestant with the lowest number will go home. Demi wants Jason to go, and L.A. wants CeCe to go – no surprises there. Then Britney chooses to send CeCe home, and Simon picks Jason. Due to deadlock, the public votes rule, and it is Jason Brock who is going home.
Jason makes a graceful exit; he smiles and says, “I did it for the Gays and Japan.”
The show isn’t over yet, though. For the first time on any televised singing competition, The X Factor revealed the contestant rankings according to the public vote. The performers placed as follows:
1. Tate Stevens
2. Carly Rose Sonenclar
3. Vino Alan
4. Diamond White
5. Fifth Harmony
6. Emblem3
7. Jennel Garcia
8. Paige Thomas
9. Lyric 145
10. Beatrice Miller
11. Arin Ray
12. CeCe Frey
Now that the judges know where their contestants stand, it will be interesting to see what changes they make for next week’s Top 12 performances.
