This week in the news we noticed a lot of articles about judges and voters. For celebrities we have Sharon Osbourne vs. Lady Gaga (on behalf of Kelly Osbourne), Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, and The Oscars. For civilians we have “We the People”, The White House and the Death Star, and also news about the Monopoly board game.
Former America’s Got Talent judge Sharon Osbourne went Mama Bear on Lady Gaga and posted a scathing letter to her defending her daughter Kelly Osbourne, and demanded that LG call off her “Little Monsters” who - following an open letter from Lady Gaga - have been harassing Kelly over her work on the E! show Fashion Police. Lady Gaga believes the show, hosted by Joan Rivers - the woman who invented the red carpet as a public event – “breeds negativity”. We love Kelly O in her role as style maven, and can’t wait to see her commentary during this year’s award season, especially for The Oscars. By the way, the 2013 nominees were announced this week – see the video below. The 85th Academy Awards are scheduled to air live on ABC February 24.
The X Factor USA season 2 may be over, but the judges of course, are still in the news. Recent reports say Britney Spears voted to leave her spot as a judge and mentor on the televised talent show to concentrate on recording and touring. We also learned that Brit’s fellow X Factor judge, Demi Lovato, who deservedly has had a very successful year, still lives in a sober house so she won't “lose her way”. TMZ said it best: “In a town with a lot of stars who never figure it out, it's pretty amazing when you see someone as young as her make such good decisions.” Bravo, Demi.
The Academy doesn’t let the public vote on The Oscar Awards, but the US Government allows us to be heard in elections, and by providing the means for civilians to start and sign petitions on The White House website. Recently, one such document called for the US Government to "Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016." Because the Obama Administration rocks, there was an official White House response listing several reasons why our country won’t be building a Death Star, including the fact that, “The Administration does not support blowing up planets.”
The green houses and red hotels on the standard edition of the Monopoly board will be staying, but Hasbro recently announced they will be getting rid of one the game pieces to make way for a new token. You have until February 5th to exercise your right to vote on the piece that will go, and also the new one that will replace it. Frankly, we are dead-set against this change. We don’t mind if they add a new piece, but retiring one of the classic pieces is sacrilege (and if I don’t get to be the Scottie dog, I’m not playing!).
Will you miss Britney on The X Factor USA? Are you Team Kelly or Team Lady Gaga? Are you pro or anti-Death Star? Which Monopoly tokens will you vote out and in? Let us know in the comments.
