Chef Maneet Chauhan will appear at Tashan in Philadelphia on April 19 |
Tashan, Philadelphia’s premier modern Indian restaurant and lounge (777 S Broad Street), welcomes celebrity chef Maneet Chauhan this Friday, April 19. Chauhan, a judge on the Food Network's Chopped reality series, a one-time competitor on Iron Chef, a recent recipient of the James Beard Award for Excellence, and the author of the upcoming cookbook Flavors of My World (out on May 1), will be cooking and making cocktails at Tashan. The restaurant's Executive Chef, Sylva Senat, will be preparing the night’s appetizer and dessert.
Munish Narula, the owner of Tashan, is a big fan of Chauhan’s cooking, so much so that when he heard she was planning a book tour, he was thrilled to become part of her trek. “They approached us and we immediately jumped on the opportunity for both a book signing and a dinner,” says Narula. “I have known her several years, have eaten at Vermillion in Manhattan (where Chauhan was previously the Executive Chef), and think that she’s just a great person. As soon as they called, it was a no-brainer.”
The one-night collaboration between Chauhan and Senat begins seating at 5:00 pm. The cost per person is $95 (plus tax and tip) and will include a signed, personalized copy of Flavors of My World.
The menu includes a Darjeeling tea and white wine cocktail prepared by Chef Maneet (page 41 in Flavors of My World), Bombay Bhel (spicy puffed rice salad, red onion, peanut and chick peas) prepeared by Chef Sylva, Mangalorean Doro Wat (skinless chicken legs done in a mix of onion, garlic, ginger, coconut and spices - page 40 in Flavors of My World) by Chef Maneet, and Tashan's signature Creme Brulee with Tahitian vanilla bean and gulab jamun center.
