Every year the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia takes place in April with parties and exhibits taking place throughout the city. This weekend, on April 26, the month-long calendar of events came to a close with the 2013 Blossom Bash, a gala held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt at the Bellevue.
The Blossom Bash began with a cocktail hour and two wonderful performances: a stunning ballet by the Rock School Dancers, and a stirring Taiko drum routine by KyoDaiko. Guests then sat down to lively program with speeches by members of the event committee including Kazumi Teune, Executive Director of the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, who talked about how far the event had come in over 15 years. Teune also received a commendation from Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, Consulate General of Japan in New York, in recognition of the Japan America Society's successful promotion of Japanese culture in the region.
The evening also featured a three course dinner prepared by Chef Richard Hebben: tempura lobster and lemongrass coconut milk soup, teriyaki glazed tenderloin and red snapper with Japanese-style green beans and shiitake mushrooms, and a dessert of flourless chocolate cake with green tea ice cream.
