As much as we love Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and the rest of the Project Runway cast, we've always thought that what the show really needed was more Tim Gunn. Now, with the January 16 premiere of Lifetime TV's Under the Gunn, our wish is granted. For this new competitive fashion series, Tim Gunn is host, and successful Project Runway contestants Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos act as mentors.
Like Project Runway, the new series is a fashion competition, but this time dapper Tim Gunn is in the host role as he oversees three Runway alumni – Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos – as they work "Under the Gunn" to mentor their teams of designers through challenges and help them bring their creations to a weekly runway show. Each week one designer will be eliminated, and once a mentor loses all of his or her contestants, they are eliminated too.
Under the Gunn features permanent judges designer Rachel Roy, celebrity stylist Jen Rade and Marie Claire Senior Fashion Editor Zanna Roberts Rassi, plus weekly guest judges including fashion pros Heidi Klum, Georgina Chapman, Trina Turk and Wendy Partridge, and actors and musicians including Neil Patrick Harris, Macklemore, Jaimie Alexander, Zendaya and Sarah Hyland.
The winner of Under the Gunn will receive $100,000 cash; a spread in Marie Claire magazine; a Brother sewing and embroidery studio; a trip to Paris; a 2014 Lexus CT 200h; the chance to design a collection to be sold at Francesca's; and the opportunity to design the uniform for Benefit Cosmetics. The winning mentor will receive a 2014 Lexus CT 200h, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine and a spot as guest editor for one year.
