| Glamorosi Magazine Weekend Pick: South Street Festival on Saturday, May 2 |
On Saturday, May 2, the street where hippies meet will host the annual South Street Headhouse District Spring Festival from 11 AM to 8 PM, between Front and 8th Street and along Headhouse Plaza. As always, the day-long party is a celebration of that famous neighborhood with live music and shopping including 150+ vendors, 40+ bands, and 30+ restaurants and bars participating.
Live music at the South Street Headhouse District Spring Festival will be plentiful with three stages: 8th Street, 5th Street, and a specially designed "lawn concert" area on 2nd Street with grass rolled across the block. There will be interactive entertainment based on the film Insidious: Chapter 3; it's called “Into the Further 4D Virtual Reality Experience” and it will resemble a spooky otherworldly realm just like the film that inspired it. With Wizard World's ComicCon coming through Philly next week, visitors to the South Street party can check out the Atomic City Comic shop and its version of "Comicon" and free Comic Book Day. Isaiah Zagar's Magic Gardens will present specially designed community arts projects throughout the festival.
Then there is the food. Brauhaus Schmitz (718 South St.) hosts their own private bock party – Maifest – celebrating German cuisine, craft beer and dances such as the Holzhacker (Chopping Wood Dance) and Schuhplattler (Slapping Feet Dance). Restaurants such as Me N Mo (meatballs), Supper (modern American), Twisted Tail (Southern American), Pizzeria Stella (pasta and wood oven pizza), South Street Souvlaki (Greek), Tuk Tuk Real (Philly's first Thai taqueria) and many more will be on hand to serve up choice menu items, with food trucks and carts doing likewise.
