This week in entertainment news, everybody was singing. First, the internet was buzzing about a “Random Girl" who did an amazing rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” in front of a karaoke machine in a grocery store. After initially reading about her on Perez Hilton, I did some Googling and found out the mystery singer is 21-year-old Zendee Rose Tenerefe.
I also learned that Tenerefe was a contestant on X Factor in the Philippines, she has a YouTube channel with dozens of videos of her singing covers of hits from Rihanna, Bruno Mars and more, and she recently signed a record deal with Warner Music Group. Not only does she have a phenomenal voice, she’s an adorable presence - you all should definitely check her out.
Meanwhile, the American Idol tour stopped in the Philippines this week – season 11’s top ten contestants performed in Manila, and first runner-up Jessica Sanchez, an American of Filipino and Mexican descent, stayed behind to do some endorsements. Back in the States, The X Factor auditions continued with a memorable storm-filled night in Greensboro, NC, and The Voice announced that next season Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera will be replaced by Usher and Shakira. A few days later, Shakira made headlines again with the news that she’s pregnant.
One of my favorite actresses, Sophia Loren, has sung in quite a few films, but this week the world sang "Happy Birthday" to her when she turned 78 on September 20, and LIFE celebrated the occasion with a portfolio of rare Loren photographs.
