Hafpor Julius Bjornsson plays 'The Mountain' on Game of Thrones |
Game of Thrones fans looking for action before their usual Sunday night of viewing can check out Hafpor Julius Bjornsson live in Philadelphia, PA, between May 14 and May 17. The world class wrestler-turned-actor who plays "Gregor Clegane" aka "The Mountain" on the HBO hit series will be at Devil's Den (1148 S. 11th St.) on May 14 from 5 to 6 PM, and will also take part in the first Philadelphia Renaissance Faire (4100 Chamounix Drive in Fairmount Park) on May 16 and 17 from noon to 8:30 PM.
Bjornsson (standing 6'9" and 400+ pounds) was discovered by Game of Thrones producers during his time on the British television series The World's Strongest Man, where he was a competitor during its 2012-2013 seasons. Along with being cast as "Gregor Clegane" on Game of Thrones during its 2014 season (where he smashed a human skull with his bare hands), Bjornsson made headlines in January 2015 by breaking a 1000-year-old Viking Strongman Record by lifting, then carrying, a 1,433-lb. log on his back during a strongman competition in Malaysia.
Bjornsson will probably not carry any large logs on May 14 when he hangs at Devil's Den, a popular South Philly pub specializing in craft beer. Instead, "The Mountain that Rides” will probably hoist goblets of Game of Thrones-inspired brews like Barren Hill's North of the Wall (a white IPA brewed with a wild yeast strain) and Ommegang’s Three-Eyed Raven (a black saison), and crush an order of Chef Paul Trowbridge's Duck Fries.
On May 16 and 17, Bjornsson will play the role of "King Thor" during the debut Philadelphia Renaissance Faire produced by Dancing Ferret Booking's Patrick Rodgers, an event that Glamorosi Magazine first wrote about on March 1, 2015.
