Fliers for pet adoption events in Philadelphia on Sunday, May 17 |
On Sunday, May 17, Philadelphia goes to the dogs, in a wonderful way, when two organizations – Street Tails Animal Rescue (via SPADO) and Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia – hold separate outdoor events highlighted by adoptions for pet lovers to find four-legged family members.
On May 17 from 9 AM to 4 PM, the South Philly Association of Dog Owners (SPADO) will host "A Dog Day Afternoon" in the field at Columbus Square at 12th and Wharton (access will be granted at 12th and Reed). The event will feature pet adoptions in the dog run area by Street Tails Animal Rescue (STAR), a non-profit organization dedicated to "giving the homeless and unwanted the second chance they all deserve, with a focus on those with special needs."
The day's activities include a photo booth, food trucks, raffles from restaurants and merchants, shopping, a dog wash and plenty of room for spayed and neutered dogs to run in the enclosed ball field. Tickets $5 in advance, $10 at the gate; proceeds will go toward renovating the Columbus Square dog run. For info about adoption requirements contact Rescue@Streettails.org. On May 17, from 11 AM to 4 PM, Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia will host "With Love: Super Adoption Day" at the Piazza in Northern Liberties (1001 N. 2nd Street). This non-profit organization is dedicated to making Philly a no-kill city, in which "all healthy and treatable animals are saved, and euthanasia is only reserved for dogs or cats who are hopelessly sick or injured, or dogs who pose a real and immediate threat to public safety."
The event will be hosted by Radio 104.5's Wendy Rollins and will feature pet adoptions (cats, dogs, small animals), shopping and special guests, and since The Piazza has numerous restaurants, there's no need to leave the premises when it's time for a meal. For info about adoption requirements contact info@phillynokill.org. On social media look for the hashtag #SAD2015.
The organizations mentioned above – and many more – rescue animals year-round. Contact your local shelter about adopting and/or donating and/or volunteering; our furry and feathered friends need our help.
