Philadelphia Locations Stand Out in New Liam Hemsworth Film ‘Paranoia’

Last night in Philadelphia, the local crew and cast of Paranoia gathered at the Ritz 5 in Old City for a private screening of the film they worked on throughout summer and late autumn of 2012. The Robert Luketic-directed film, adapted from Joseph Finder’s novel of the same name, stars Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman and Amber Heard; a partial listing of Paranoia's filming locations in Philadelphia is detailed below.  Paranoia opens in theaters nationwide today, Friday, August 16.

Weeks ago, we dropped the exclusive on Miley Cyrus and the location of where she recorded music last summer during her stay in Philadelphia with fiancé Liam Hemsworth (he was in The City of Brotherly Love shooting Paranoia, which is now back in Philly for filming that wraps tomorrow, December 18). Today, that studio, Milkboy on N. 7th Street in the Northern Liberties section of the city, gave us news of the tracks’ producers.

Paranoia is still in its first week of shooting its second round in Philadelphia (the film was in Philly over the summer), and already director Robert Luketic has taken his cast from the Four Seasons Hotel to the now-closed Tangerine restaurant to Rogues Gallery. Today and tomorrow, the cast (with star Liam Hemsworth), crew and a slew of extras will turn the Philadelphia Bank Building at 421 Chestnut Street into a warehouse for a rave.

Paranoia is in its first week of filming in Philadelphia after its long autumn break and already the film, directed by Robert Luketic, has spent time in Old City and uptown Philly. This week's entertainment news left me pondering icons, fame and pop culture. I recently stumbled across BuzzFeed's article about forgotten heartthrobs of the 80s and 90s, and while I didn't recognize most of them, I enjoyed looking back at what I'm guessing were a lot of Tiger Beat shots with big hair, bad outfits, and baby boys throwing gang signs. Philadelphia-based auteur M. Night Shyamalan is certainly busy editing and filming additional footage for After Earth, his upcoming flick with Will and Jaden Smith (due for release on June 7, 2013). But a director-producer has to eat, so this past Saturday he and his wife Bhavna had a date night and dined at Tashan, Philadelphia’s finest Indian restaurant.

Last night signs were posted between 10th and 11th on Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia to alert residents that the NBC TV drama Do No Harm would be filming in the area. The action will take place on September 10 between 7 AM and 9 PM, but there will be “no parking” signs posted in the neighborhood beginning on September 9, so that equipment trucks and other production vehicles can be positioned in advance of filming.

Harrison Ford and Liam Hemsworth were arrested outside of the Beasley Building at 12th and Walnut in Philadelphia, PA on Tuesday afternoon. No, they didn’t break any laws, their characters were busted as part of the action in Paranoia, the corporate espionage thriller directed by Robert Luketic that is currently filming in Philly (they'll be leaving soon so Hemsworth can shoot The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, then they'll be back in December). While Hemsworth got the cuffs thrown on him, fiancée Miley Cyrus was busy hitting up the Betsy Ross House on Arch Street.

Last night Harrison Ford visited Village Whiskey located in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia, PA. Village Whiskey is owned by Iron Chef Jose Garces, and is known for its vast selection of spirits and a hearty menu including gourmet burgers and duck fat French fries. Ford sat at the bar.

Last night Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford had dinner at Tashan, one of Philadelphia's best-loved Indian restaurants. Oldman and Ford are in town filming Paranoia, a corporate espionage thriller directed by Rob Luketic and based on a book by Joseph Finder.

Over the past month film fans and celebrity watchers have been on the lookout for sightings of stars from Paranoia, a corporate espionage thriller currently shooting in the Philadelphia area. For some, the sightings have been easier to come by since the filming has been taking place right outside of their front door.

One such resident is a friend who was lucky to have the action taking place by her South Philly home, and she was able to shoot two very short videos of Miley Cyrus - the film's leading man, Liam Hemsworth, is her fiance. The videos were taken on July 30, 2012, a few weeks before Miley had her long locks drastically cut into a shaved, spiky, polarizing style that has fans embroiled in an internet debate over whether the style is a "hair do" or "hair don't".

The first video shows Miley Cyrus going into the house at 9th and Lombard that we were the first to tell you about on July, 20, 2012. The second video shows Miley leaving the house with an assistant.  In both of the quick videos she is very pretty and smiling, she is wearing her black Chucks (Chuck Taylor sneakers) and is sporting her now-gone top knot that was so famous it inspired @Mileys_Bun, a Twitter account with almost 30,000 followers.

Paranoia is based on a book by best-selling author Joseph Finder. The film is directed by Robert Luketic starring Gary Oldman, Liam Hemsworth, Amber Heard, Harrison Ford, Embeth Davidtz, Josh Holloway, Richard Dreyfuss, Julian McMahon, and Lucas Till. 

The production has been filming in Philadelphia at locations in South Philly (9th and Lombard, 5th and Morris and 10th and Carpenter),  in Center City (at Twenty Manning and The Kimmel Center),  and in the suburbs at the private Arbor Hill estate in Plymouth Meeting Township.

Over the past few weeks we have been bringing you photos and reports from the film Paranoia, currently shooting in the Philadelphia area. The movie is a corporate espionage thriller directed by Robert Luketic starring Gary Oldman, Liam Hemsworth, Amber Heard, Harrison Ford, Embeth Davidtz, Josh Holloway, Richard Dreyfuss, Julian McMahon, and Lucas Till.

We got a tip that Paranoia was filming in Whitemarsh Township today (August 9), and will be filming there tomorrow (August 10) and Monday (August 13). Residents in the township's Ambler area received letters stating that they would "notice the presence of a helicopter and firing of blank ammunition", and that the production would be "stopping traffic intermittently".

A report from PlymouthWhitemarshPatch.com has Paranoia filming at Arbor Hill, the 70-acre private estate of Dennis Alter, former CEO of Advanta, a banking company that is now closed.

Fans Gather at Paranoia Filming Location for a Chance to See Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus

Maybe Radar is right and Liam Hemsworth really is sick of his fiancée Miley Cyrus always being on the set of Paranoia, currently filming in Philadelphia. Last night though, after weeks of seeing them around and hearing their happy squeals at the briefest sighting of their twin heroes, I made the acquaintance of a few "LiLey CyWorth"  fans.

Switching surroundings from South Philly’s 10th & Carpenter to the Rittenhouse Row area (Twenty Manning and Audrey Claire on Wednesday night, Sofitel and the alley alongside it and its neighboring Davio’s on Thursday), a crew of cool, young lasses were hanging on the corner of 17th and Sansom awaiting the arrival of Hemsworth who would be filming a chase scene that night. The inquisitive group asked photographer Scott Weiner and I who had we run across, shot or reviewed lately (One Direction, Kevin Hart, J-Lo), and rhapsodized about their several run-ins with Liam and Miley. And no, this particular group didn’t think Hemsworth was tired of his gal Cyrus - "they're too perfect together".

The Kimmel Center is currently being dressed as a set for an indoor Paranoia shoot, and we hear they are not done in the Italian Market area. We'll see. Watch our Twitter and this blog for news as to the next time we get a chance to watch some filming. Hopefully, it will include Gary Oldman who has already been spied in town.

Today (July 31, 2012) Paranoia is filming at 10th and Carpenter in South Philly's Bardascino Park (it'll be "Old Library Park" in the film). Liam Hemsworth (outfitted in a slim suit) and Richard Dreyfuss are doing scenes sitting on a bench while extras - some children, some adults - run, play, and walk by while talking on cell phones, making it look like just another day in the park. Filming appeared to stop briefly when a loud helicopter hovered over the area. Some wondered if the chopper was part of the scene; a policeman said it caused an unexpected delay.

10th Street is closed to cars from Christian Street to Washington Avenue, and while they are filming foot traffic is being directed to walk around to 9th or 11th unless you live on the block.

Today at the Paranoia location at 9th and Lombard:  lots of Teamsters and trucks and a few craft services tables - the usual things you'd expect to see.

A.D. and I have friends and/or family involved with the film, and they gave us this info:  Paranoia is currently scheduled for filming on 10th Street between Christian and Carpenter during the first two weeks of August. Things could change, but for now, it looks good.

Also, for those of you emailing to ask, yes, Julian McMahon is in town.  We saw him on his way to the shoot yesterday, and yes, he is as handsome as you think.  Happy Birthday Julian!

We have some on-set gossip too, but promised to keep it quiet until filming has wrapped.

After reporting here at Glamorosi on July 20 that the Paranoia crew was setting up in a former church on Lombard Street between 8th and 9th in South Philadelphia, Liam Hemsworth and company’s initial shoots have been taking place elsewhere in the city. First, they shot at the Comcast Building on JFK Boulevard where Hemsworth, Lucas Till and Embeth Davidtz's characters were filmed leaving Comcast in a huff. Maybe they forgot to pay their cable bills. Next, the Paranoia crew camped out from 6th and Tasker down onto Morris Street with the personal trailers of Richard Dreyfuss, Josh Holloway and Hemsworth nearby (for the actor's safety we don't print personal trailer locations).

Since this part of the Paranoia shoot is supposed to look like Brooklyn where Hemsworth’s character lives, it made sense that Richard Dreyfuss, wearing a back brace, was outfitted in a Brooklyn baseball team shirt and cap. As for Hemsworth, after spying him shirtless traveling between two trailers, he walked to the shot location at 5th and Morris for a scene where he is being confronted by Josh Holloway. Though we didn’t get a chance to speak to Hemsworth or Dreyfuss, Holloway was friendly; after changing out of his shiny charcoal suit costume he had a cigarette, put on mirror shades and a baseball cap, and said "hello" when we stopped him for a shot.

Paranoia is supposed to be filming at that aforementioned Lombard Street location (according to neighbors and numerous signs along the street) as well as Loews Hotel (according to crew) as well as near Rittenhouse Square in the next two days (according to additional production sources). Sadly, these may all be indoor shots. The main thing to look out for: Harrison Ford - his arrival is reportedly scheduled for Friday. Gary Oldman is due in too, but there is no date to report yet.

It’s been fun watching Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus walking their dog Ziggy in Rittenhouse Square and hitting the area’s shops like DiBruno’s. But now it’s time for Hemsworth to get to work on Paranoia, his filming-in-Philly flick with Harrison Ford, Amber Heard, Lucas Till and Gary Oldman.

A location for Paranoia in Philly

This morning film crews started lining up along Ninth Street between South and Lombard, while scaffolding went up (along with black iron fencing, new sleek doors and a grayish coat of paint) on the one-time church space on Lombard between Eighth and Ninth, the first shooting location for director Robert Luketic’s Paranoia. The film finds Harrison Ford’s corporate executive character squaring off against Oldman’s CEO for Hemsworth’s tech science services.

Filming is scheduled to start Saturday morning. The last time the two older actors ran into each other, it was in Air Force One where Indiana Jones played the President and threw terrorist Oldman off his plane. On a much more serious note, Oldman must be in distress with the news of the shooting that took place overnight in Aurora, Colorado during a midnight screening of his Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Our hearts go out to the victims of the tragedy.
